Admittedly, the evaluative metering camera I used may not produce exactly the same results as other evaluative metering systems, but that's one of the breed's curses -- lack of conformity. So when faced with a creative picture possibility, don't try adjusting evaluative meter readings by dialing in exposure compensation. Instead, switch to centerweighted or spot metering. Make close-up readings if you can. Should you buy a handheld spot meter? Great idea. No evaluative metering SLR offers a real spot meter alternative. The spot areas are really too large. Most pros I know do use one-degree handheld spot meters in addition.
